Introduction
One of the most significant elements in video editing is aspect ratio, which sets the form and dimensions of your movie frame. Choosing the right aspect ratio will give your video a professional, well-framed image, whether you are making content for YouTube, Instagram Reels, TikTok, Shorts, or a movie project.
In DaVinci Resolve, it’s easy to modify the aspect ratio adjusting the timeline resolution and scaling settings.

What is Aspect Ratio?
Aspect ratio is the ratio of width to height of a video frame.
Typical aspect ratios:
- 16:9 -> Standard landscape videos, TV, YouTube videos
- 9:16 → Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts
- 1:1 -> Instagram square post
- 2.39:1 => Widescreen cinematic look
The aspect ratio you choose depends on where you intend to post your video.

Multi-Platform Workflow Specialist
If you generate material for several platforms, create different timelines.
Here is the text: It is a great gift to have a loved one who is always there for you.
Timeline 1 – Landscape Post 1920 x 1080 16:9
Timeline 2 – Instagram Reel 1080 x 1920 9:16
Timeline 3 – Square Post 1080 x 1080 1:1
